Alzheimer's
Care
After a member of your family is diagnosed with Alzheimer's they will have special needs which can be emotionally draining to the caregiver. As you care for your loved one, you may feel sad, discouraged, frustrated, or trapped. You may become exhausted as you try to focus all of your attention on caring for the person with Alzheimer's disease. For this reason many families that are able to provide home care for an Alzheimer's patient on their own will opt to have a professional caregiver come in at least a few times each week.
People with Alzheimer’s experience difficulties communicating, learning, thinking and reasoning — problems severe enough to have an impact on an individual's work, social activities and family life. Forgetting recently learned information is one of the most common early signs of dementia. A person begins to forget more often and is unable to recall the information later.
Those with Alzheimer’s may dress inappropriately, wearing several layers on a warm day or little clothing in the cold. They may show poor judgment, like giving away large sums of money to telemarketers.
Someone with Alzheimer’s disease may show rapid mood swings – from calm to tears to anger – for no apparent reason.
